IN BLOOM @ Gallery Shoal Creek
An Installation FLORA ARTE + FINE ART
Pictures and comments by JB.
The floral works were beautiful and on the whole complimented the fine art on the wall well. It featured the floral designs of Benoit Ballon / David Kurio / Jennifer Myers /Mario Gaitan + Keith Burnham / Bonni Taylor who each selected a piece of work from the gallery artists. The stand out artists appeared to be Jennifer Myers who selected the work of Alexey Krasnovsky and Bonni Taylor who chose Melissa J. Craig as her muse for her stunning beautifully delicate piece. However, all the work was of an amazing standard. Unfortunately, my photos do not do justice to these works of art as the opening was very crowded making it hard to photograph and you really must go there to see it yourself. Show hung Aug. 26-29, 2009.

Plein Air Austin @ Corridor of Art
Pictures and comments by RCD.
Many of the works in this show depict Austin or Hill Country scenes, which is neat for collectors. The artists paint regularly outdoors together in a variety of medium, so oil, pastel and watercolor are all well represented. The show is beautifully hung and the opening was well attended. The upgrades made in the Corridor were a vast improvement too. 37 talented artists and well over a hundred paintings are on view at the Corridor of Art at 700 Lavaca Street until September 12.

Welcome sign.

Carol Marine @ Wally Workman
Pictures and comments by RCD.
What can I say about Carol Marine's work? Her style is unique and fresh. She gives the still life life! Wonderful brushwork and color combine to make paintings that glow. Quirky titles and engaging compositions make the art more appealing. Good to see some sales during this recession time - I'd suggest getting some of Carol's work now, because her prices are really quite reasonable for her talent and popularity. Her show hangs from July 11 - August 6.
***
Upstairs, don't miss the nonrepresentational works of Suzanne Lewis. The mixed media paintings, reminiscent of mid-century design, are inspired by her artist residency last summer at the Cape Cod National Seashore. The soft coastal colors of sand and sky create a very serene, yet playful tone. Just what memories of the coast should be. The show hangs from July 2 - August 5.

Austin Art Space hosted their first annual juried exhibition at the coop space on Northcross Dr. There were nearly 40 works by various artists depicting their visions of Texas. Juror Jerry Seagle selected works that expressed artistic inspiration both in vartiety of design and materials.
The back of the gallery features the working and exhibit spaces of nine artists who share the coop.
The show hangs from July 10-August 22.

Overview of the crowd.
